Active Lime (CaO)

Active Lime or Quicklime (chemical formula: CaO) is a chemical compound derived from heating limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) at high temperatures through a process called calcination. This process releases carbon dioxide (CO2), leaving calcium oxide.

Characteristics:

• Appearance: White or grayish-white powder or lumps
• Chemical Formula: CaO (Calcium Oxide)
• Texture: Dry and highly reactive
• Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, producing slaked lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2)

Uses:

1. Construction:

   • Used to make cement and mortar
   • Soil stabilization in road construction

   • Flue gas treatment in power plants

3. Agriculture:

   • Neutralizes acidic soils to improve crop productivity
